Giving back to communities that need it most.
As a counselor for three years, I had the gracious opportunity to teach incoming high school seniors, ages 16–17, about the legislative system in Nevada. I taught them the fundamentals of the Federal Government and how to take advantage of our given civic duties. This occurred at the University of Nevada, Reno, where the students were put into a mock government and split into teams that each represented a city in Nevada. Each city was given the objective of becoming the best city by earning more positions of power. Ultimately, I volunteered a total of 400 hours to the mission.
I am an avid comic book fan. As a kid, no one inspired me more than your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. He brought such joy to me and forever instilled in me the lesson of helping others in an effort to make the world a better place. That brought me to Critical Care Comics, an organization centered on giving kids hope and levity during a difficult time in their lives by dressing up as iconic superheroes. I had the opportunity to attend school events and Make-A-Wish events as Spider-Man and inspire kids to keep moving forward.
